Spring and Summer Delights

July, 2022

As spring brings new life to the earth, and summer nourishes that life, so our program continues to grow and thrive.  We are delighted to introduce our new teacher, Linda Finkbeiner, who hails from Granby, and has taught young children for many years.  She will be joining Suzanne, who will be taking over the role of head teacher/director.  Welcome, Linda!

We are looking forward to starting up with all our new students this fall.  Meanwhile, we have two spaces remaining in our 4- and 5-year-old program for the 2022-2023 school year.  If you know of anyone with a child that age who is looking for a preschool home, send them our way!

Our 3-year-old program is full, but if you would like to add your name to our waiting list, please send us an email.

Welcome, Linda!

Preschool in the time of COVID-19:

From January, 2022

We have one space remaining in our 4- and 5-year-old program for the 2021-2022 school year!  Our 3-year-old program is full, with a waiting list, but if you would like to add your name, send us an email.

We have been enjoying having more children enrolled in our school this year, and we spent much of our time outside during the fall.  Winter has brought temperatures too cold to be outside - but we have kept windows open in our classroom, and we've enjoyed the large round room in the church for indoor recess activities such as parachutes and obstacle courses!  Before the local COVID-19 numbers spiked, we were grateful for a visit from famous local cartoonist Rick Stromoski, and we enjoyed a fall field trip to feed the animals at Roaring Acres Alpaca Farm in Suffield.

Now that spring is approaching, we're looking forward to returning to our outdoor classroom space.  The zinnias and other wildflowers last year's students planted should be sprouting before we know it, and we'll enjoy doing more planting this year.

From September, 2021

We are looking forward to starting the year with both teachers fully vaccinated for COVID-19, and we hope for a more "normal"-looking school year.  We will, of course, continue to follow all recommended state and local guidelines regarding the prevention of COVID-19.  We are excited to be continuing the use of our outdoor classroom space, which is great for children's learning no matter what the situation is with the global pandemic!

We will be returning to our full five-day schedule in September (we start on Tuesday, September 7th), but due to current COVID-19 restrictions, we are offering tours of the school by appointment only.  We can also set up a Zoom session if you would like to meet our teachers!  Please contact us at - we would love to have your child join us this fall!  Registration forms for the fall can be downloaded here.

We are happy to announce that our 2020-2021 school year has been a resounding success, in spite of the limitations we have faced with the global COVID-19 pandemic.  This year, we have:

  • Held classes in our new outdoor classroom space, whenever weather permitted

  • Held classes three days per week, M/W/F

  • Worn masks whenever we were inside, except during snack time

  • Socially distanced following all state and local guidelines

  • Cleaned all toys and surfaces following COVID-prevention guidelines

What a wonderful time we've had!  We have played, made art, explored books and numbers, learned songs (outdoor singing only), climbed and jumped and run in the playground, gone on nature walks around the school grounds, done science experiments, and had so much fun.  Thank you to all of the families who have shared your children with us during this challenging year!

From 2020-2021:

COVID-19 has certainly made this a strange year.  We currently have enough children enrolled for a Monday/Wednesday/Friday program, but we are gathering names for a waiting list, and if we have enough new enrollees, we hope to open for a full five-day week starting in November.

We are doing things a bit differently this year - for starters, we're using an outdoor classroom space.  This not only reduces COVID risk, but also helps us do something we've been wanting to do for a long time: spend more time outdoors!  Unless there are thunderstorms, or the wind chill is below 32 degrees F, we will be holding class outside.  This means raincoats and boots may be needed, or sunblock and shorts, depending on the day!  As usual, we'll ask everyone to pack an extra set of clothing to prepare for possible clothing changes.  Children will still be using the bathroom inside our building, of course, and if there are sudden weather changes, we'll head inside.

We will be following all state and local guidelines regarding cleaning and COVID prevention.  What does this look like?  Children use individual art supplies.  Rather than using a large sensory table, children have individual small sensory bins to use.  Teachers wear masks at all times, indoors or out, and starting on September 21, children will wear masks when inside.  We are washing toys and surfaces of tables, large toys, and outdoor equipment daily.  Touchless soap dispensers are installed at sinks.  Guest readers may be possible via Zoom, but won't be possible in person this year.  Check-in and -out are being done outside the building.

We are very excited about our school this year!  We believe that outdoor play is especially important for preschool children, and we are excited to be incorporating music, movement, art, stories, and French time into our outside gathering time.

East Granby Congregational Church has generously selected our school as the recipient of their mission fundraiser this year!   The congregants are selecting items to purchase for our school, and contributing to our carpet fund, so keep your eyes peeled for some new things around the classroom and playground.  We are very grateful to EGCC for their generosity!

From 2019-2020:

Thank you to all who participated in the gifts for foster children!  Altogether, we filled the Christmas gift wishes for thirteen at-risk children in the greater Hartford area.  We are so grateful for your generosity.

Our Winter Concerts were great fun.  Thanks to all who joined us!  And  a special thank you to Santa Claus for making a guest appearance.

Our kids get to do a lot of fun learning!  Classroom events this year have included yoga activities by a yoga instructor; egg demonstrations by a chicken owner; and a special trip to the Polar Express thanks to Suffield's Kent Memorial Library.  Thank you to all of our talented volunteers!
